Holograph Note Signed

Holograph Note. Updike's personalized stationery. 5.5 x 8.5 ruled notepad sheet with perforated topedge. Undated (but likely 1986). 38 words. Updike explains why he did not sign a book sent to him. "My wife says I shouldn't sign bound galleys... so I didn't sign RV". He requests that his correspondent doesn't "send any more big bags of books" and ends with "Good luck in the 1/2 marathon. Yours, John Updike." Above his note Updike had written "1 call Angela" and above that a cartoon head portrait, both lined out. Small crease across the topedge. Near Fine condition. Before his career as novelist and poet, Updike studied art and has said in many interviews that his ambition as a PA high schooler was to be a "New Yorker" cartoonist.
